Thermacell Propane Orchard Heater for Vineyard Frost

Thermacell / Generic Orchard Heaters - Monitoring-Tools

Overview

Propane orchard heaters (also called smudge pots or frost candles) provide direct heat for frost protection in vineyard blocks where wind machine coverage is insufficient or where spot treatment of low areas is needed. Modern versions use a controlled propane flame in a cast iron housing. They are effective in small areas and for spot treatment of blocks with highly variable topography. Propane heaters are most commonly used in small estate vineyards, high-value blocks at the margins of wind machine coverage zones, and in advective frost events where wind machines are ineffective.
